Lot 201 Man Ray (eig. Emanuel Rudnitzky).

Galerie Alexandre Iolas, Paris, 1973. - Die Pochoirs in farbleuchtenden und kräftigen Farbtönen.

Internationales Postwar – Man Ray, Catalogue raisonné, Sculptures et objets, Objets de mon affection, Paris, 1983, 127. - Penrose, Man Ray, London, 1975, XX.

International Postwar – With an original multiple and 10 colored stencils based on drawings by Man Ray. Multiple mounted on a leporello. Galerie Alexandre Iolas, Paris, 1973. - The stencils feature bright and vivid colors. Man Ray, Catalogue raisonné, Sculptures et objets, Objets de mon affection, Paris, 1983, 127. - Penrose, Man Ray, London, 1975, XX. - The portfolio plays on the French sound of "pain peint" and shifts the perception of bread as food toward a linguistic-associative, almost acoustic event. From an art-historical perspective, the work follows in the tradition of Dada and Surrealism, where the ordinary object is detached from its function and placed within a realm of wit, chance, and excess of meaning. Man Ray thus draws on the logic of the ready-made, though not as a mere presentation of a found object, but as a conscious transformation and staging of the object. With the brightly colored stencils based on the "Revolving Doors" series (Anselmino 18), which appear in his work as precisely defined, flat segments of color that divide the picture surface into clearly distinct zones and create a strongly graphic, almost typified character.
