Ein Mond ist guter Dinge. 1970. Farbserigraphie auf festem Velin. 55 x 46,1 cm (82,9 x 61,7 cm). Signiert und nummeriert. - Außenränder dezent gebräunt, punktuell mit kleinen Flecken, unten links mit kleiner Druckstelle, verso in den Ecken mit Spuren ehemaliger Montierung. Insgesamt sehr gut. Ausgezeichneter, satter und farbintensiver Druck mit breitem Rand.

Galerie Der Spiegel, Köln. - Nach einem Gemälde von 1960. - Das künstlerische Verfahren der Frottage (frz. reiben), welches auch in unserem Bild Verwendung findet, ist für den Schaffensprozess der Werke Max Ernsts charakteristisch. Der Künstler bedient sich dieser Technik erstmalig Mitte der 1920er Jahre, indem er Dielenböden färbte und Abdrücke der Böden auf Papier erzeugte. Später nutzt er für das Verfahren natürliche Mittel, wie Blätter und Muschel, dessen Oberflächenstrukturen er mit einem Zeichenmittel auf das Papier überträgt. Laut Ernst stellt die Frottage ein technisches Mittel zur "Steigerung der halluzinatorischen Fähigkeiten" dar.

Superb, colour-rich and -intense impression with wide margin. - One of 150 copies. - Printed by Haas, Stuttgart. - Published by Galerie Der Spiegel, Cologne. - After a painting from 1960. - The artistic technique of frottage (French for "rubbing"), which is also used in our image, is characteristic of Max Ernst's creative process. The artist first employed this technique in the mid-1920s by staining wooden floorboards and transferring impressions of the floor onto paper. Later, he used natural materials for the process, such as leaves and shells, transferring their surface textures onto paper with a drawing medium. According to Ernst, frottage represents a technical means of "enhancing hallucinatory abilities."
