Pop Art

Contemporary Art – Colour lithograph on Fabriano paper (with watermark). Signed and dated. Mounted in frame under glass (unopened). Slightly wavy due to mounting. Slight surface abrasion on the upper edge. Traces of colour on the edge of the image due to the manufacturing process. Overall very good. Splendid print with intense colours. - With Blue Beetle, Vladimir Dubossarsky and Alexander Vinogradov present a work that exemplifies their shared artistic strategy of ironically exaggerated imagery. In bright acrylic on canvas, they stage the seemingly harmless motif of a bright blue VW Beetle, which, on closer inspection, can be read as a commentary on consumer culture, nostalgia and the tension between East and West. The two Moscow artists, known for their collaboration since the 1990s, move stylistically at the intersection of pop art, socialist realism and contemporary media aesthetics. Blue Beetle combines photorealistic precision with an over-staged colourfulness that deliberately blurs the line between reality and staging.
