Lot 360 Gertraud Möhwald. Kopf. Um 1990. Schamottierter …

Kopf. Um 1990. Schamottierter Ton, Glasuren und Engoben. 40 x 30 x 26 cm. Monogrammiert. - Partiell mit kleinen, kaum merklichen Abplatzungen. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Contemporary Art – Fireclay, glazes and engobes. Monogrammed. - Partially with small, barely noticeable flaking. Overall very good. - Gertraud Möhwald is regarded as a pioneer of figurative ceramic sculpture in the GDR and beyond. Her sculptural approach combines precision craftsmanship with an attitude that does not negate imperfection, but recognises it as an essential component of artistic form. This approach is expressed in the present head sculpture: materiality, fragmentation and the conscious visualisation of the process of creation take centre stage. Möhwald prefers to work with fireclay, ceramic shards, paper and wire. Her sculptures are not idealised images, but physical expressions of inner states. Cracks, fractures and material overlays are not concealed but deliberately emphasised. This transforms her figures into multi-layered metaphors for becoming and passing away, for memory, injury and healing.
