Zeitgenössische Kunst – Mields Oeuvre verkörpert ein seit nunmehr über fünf Dekaden anhaltendes Interesse für Mathematik, ihre Systeme, Theorien und Phänomene. Geleitet von klaren, rationalen Strukturen und Zahlenordnungen, gibt sie ebendiesen eine physische, künstlerische Präsenz. Sie untersucht und visualisiert die oft im Verborgenen wirkenden Ordnungskonzepte und überführt sie in die Gestalt der Malerei. Das Verlangen nach Ordnung, das sowohl der Künstlerin als auch der menschlichen Gesellschaft allgemein innezuwohnen scheint, erläutert sie wie folgt: "Alles hat Formen, weil es Zahlen in sich hat, nimm ihnen diese und sie sind nichts mehr". In ihrem Werk zeigen sich Ambivalenzen: die Suche nach naturwissenschaftlichen Ordnungsstrukturen bei gleichzeitigem Ausdruck von Irrationalität, die Nähe von Ratio und Magie. Eindeutig erkennbare Strukturen und Zeichen, die allgemeingültig festgelegt sind, werden im selben Moment von der Künstlerin hinterfragt und destabilisiert.

Guided by clear, rational structures and numerical orders, she gives them a physical, artistic presence. She examines and visualises the often hidden concepts of order and translates them into the form of painting. mbivalences are expressed in her work, the search for scientific structures of order and the simultaneous expression of irrationality, the proximity of reason and magic.
