Weltkrieges verbringt Picasso vermehrt Zeit in Südfrankreich.

Classical Modernism – Ceramic. White earthenware, engobe, incised decoration and brushed glaze. Numbered and indicated on the base as well as with marks 'Madoura Plein Feu' and 'Edition Picasso'. - Slightly dusted, all in all very good. Splendid copy with vibrant surface. - One of 250 copies. - After the liberation of Paris and end of World War II, Picasso spents more and more time in the south of France. In 1946, he visits a ceramics exhibition in Vallauris, a town where ceramics have been produced since Roman times. He meets Suzanne and Georges Ramié, owners of the Madoura factory, and follows their invitation to try his hand at modelling ceramics. In the years to follow, he sets up his own studio and works with the Ramiés to create an extensive body of work. Expanding on the basic techniques of the historical craft, he creates a wide variety of figures, plates and vases, using the material of ceramics in a highly experimental way. Picasso's visual language and his musée imaginaire are anchored withi the animals with owls, fishe and bulls as one of his central motifs. In terms of scope, variety and expressiveness, the artist's ceramics represent a significant part of his oeuvre.
