Geometrische Abstraktion – Seltene Arbeit aus dem Frühwerk. - Vgl. vergleichbare Arbeiten in: Robert S. Gessner. Die frühen Jahre Malerei und Grafik, S. 13 ill. und Robert S. Gessner. Villa Dessauer Bamberg, 11.

Geometrical Abstraction – Untitled (Spiral composition). 1943. Gouache on cardboard. Signed and dated. Verso with old mounting traces. Rare work from his early period. - Here, Gessner presents a central circular movement that expands in several directions and is structured by segments and arcs of different colors. The kinetic composition appears fluid and conveys an impression of movement and rhythm, as if the entire form were unfolding or rotating in a spiral. The color palette consists mainly of warm tones such as yellow, orange, and red, complemented by green and light blue areas. The drawing draws on influences from Constructivism and the abstract art of the first half of the 20th century, such as works by artists like Sonia Delaunay, Frantisek Kupka, and Wassily Kandinsky. He was a representative of the Zurich School of Concrete Art and, together with Paul Lohse, a member of the artist group Allianz.
