Wiener Aktionismus

Austrian Postwar – 1 C-print reworked with acrylic paint from: 104. Malaktion, Lehraktion, studio canaviello, Milan 2000. On photographic paper. Signed, numbered and on the verso with label, there with typographic work details and the copyright stamp. Spot-mounted to underlying mat and under mat, framed under glass. - Corners hardly noticeably bumped. Overall good. Splendid print with expressive colour reworked in the signal tone red. - The photograph documents the Lehraktion that took place on 03 October 2000 in Milan at the Studio d'Arte Cannaviello for 2 hours. Hermann Nitsch was influenced in his work by Greek tragedy, German Expressionism, French Symbolism and the Surrealists. He achieved the intensity of his works by extending them into the physical-sensory space of experience, by involving all the senses in the use of substances, bodies and objects with a strong sensory quality. This is contrasted by the reduction of the means of expression in the orgiastic actions to the most primal - language becomes a scream, music a noise, painting a spilling of colour, word an act and representation a material. In terms of motifs, his leading figures are borrowed from religions and myths that thematically reflect life itself - birth, life, death, rebirth.
