Surrealismus
German Post War – Oil on Masonite. Signed, dated, and inscribed "Hart." Additionally signed, dated, titled, and with artist's dedication on the reverse. Framed. - Only minimal surface dusting. Overall in very well preserved condition. Harmonious, flowing composition. - Provenance: From the artist's estate. - A work from the artist's late period, in which Zimmermann's surrealist imagery condenses into more restrained, yet no less resonant compositions. The scene unfolds like a tableau beneath an open curtain: a tent-like structure spans the pictorial space, imparting a distinctly theatrical quality. The figures beneath appear detached, their forms fluid, seemingly suspended without footing. Rather than depicting a real location, Zimmermann constructs a stage for the unreal - a setting in which narrative and spatial coherence are deliberately left unresolved.
