Lot 206 Jordánszky-Kodex. 2 Bde. …
Jordánszky-Kodex. 2 Bde. Vollständiges Faksimile der Handschrift MS. II. der Esztergomer Erzbischöflichen Bibliothek. Helikon Kiadó, Budapest/Békéscsaba, 1984. 194 Bll. Kl.-Folio.
Books on Books - Facsimile Editions – The Jordánszky Codex (1516-1519) is one of the most important early Hungarian Bibles, alongside the Vienna Codex and the Huszita Bible, and contains almost the entire New Testament as well as parts of the Old Testament in Hungarian. The 194-leaf manuscript (30 × 23 cm) is housed in its original location at the Archiepiscopal Library in Esztergom under the call number MS. II.1. The codex is the second-oldest continuous Hungarian Bible translation and was written by a single scribe in cursive Bastarda script, his work features a three-tiered decorative system consisting of ornamental script, simple initials, and elaborate Renaissance pen-drawn initials. The artistic decoration-particularly the initials and the blind-embossed Lövöldi leather binding-can be attributed to the same Carthusian workshop that also decorated the Érdy Codex, documenting a stylistic transition from Late Gothic to Renaissance forms.
