Soldaten. Um 1916. Pinsel in Schwarz und Weiß auf Velin, laviert. 25,3 x 36,1 cm. Verso mit Nachlassstempel. Punktuell auf Unterlage montiert und im Passepartout freigestellt. - In den Ecken mit kleinen Löchern ehemaliger Montierung, zwei Ecken mit kleinen Fehlstellen, verso mit dezenten Flecken. Insgesamt sehr gut. Kräftige Komposition.

Partially mounted on a backing board and framed with a passe-partout. - Small holes in the corners from previous mounting, two corners with minor losses, subtle stains on the verso. Overall in very good condition. Powerful composition. - Expressive drawing with an almost anonymising and ghostly depiction of several soldiers on the battlefield. The Nuremberg artist succeeds impressively in bringing the atrocities of the First World War directly to the viewer. The drawing is of great historical value as a contemporary document and is all the more compelling given that Gering was conscripted into military service after the outbreak of war in 1914 and was buried under rubble and rescued with serious injuries following a bombing raid.
