Lot 76 Bernd Berner. o.T. (Flächenraum). 1987. …
o.T. (Flächenraum). 1987. Aquarell, Wachskreide und Buntstift auf Aquarellpapier. 32,4 x 24,8 cm. Insgesamt sehr gut. Farbintensive Arbeit in leuchtender Aquarellierung.
German Post War – Watercolor, wax crayon, and colored pencil on watercolor paper. Signed and dated. - Slightly noticeable holes along the edges, minimal studio marks on the reverse and handwritten numbering. Overall, in very good condition. A richly colored work with vibrant watercolor washes. Using a brilliant vermilion and a dynamic gradation of color from the center outward, Berner presents his vibrant color space. The center of the rectangle is filled with dense, overlapping hatching lines in a rich, opaque carmine red. Toward the periphery, the color dissolves: The edges of the rectangle merge into watercolor-like streaks-partly orange and partly pink-that flow organically downward, moistening the paper with a translucent quality. This transition from density to transparency creates optical depth-what Berner himself defined as "surface space," in which areas of color generate a sense of spatial depth through layering.
