Lot 451 Christian Boltanski. Signal. 1995. C-Print auf …
Signal. 1995. C-Print auf Kodak Professional. 28 x 40,4 cm. Verso signiert und nummeriert. Punktuell auf Unterlage und unter Passepartout montiert. - Untere linke Ecke minimal bestoßen. Insgesamt in sehr gutem und sauberem Zustand. Prachtvoller, farbintensiver Abzug.
Photographie - Moderne Photographie – Eines von 100 Exemplaren. - Hg.
Modern Photography – C-print on Kodak Professional paper. 28 x 40.4 cm. Signed and numbered on the reverse. Mounted in places on a backing board and beneath the mat. - Slight scuffing to the bottom left corner. Overall in very good and clean condition. A magnificent, richly coloured print. - One of 100 copies. - Published by Texte zur Kunst, No. 20, 1995, "Competition and New Norms". - Boltanski applies his principle of museum-style recontextualisation to the medium of the newspaper by combining two photographs that clash abruptly: the bee on the flower as an image of nature and innocence, and the portrait of Marshal von Reichenau as a reference to war and militarism. The title Signal, which is also the name of the German occupation newspaper in Belgium, links the insect collector's obsession with a belief in a supposedly "natural" order, the apparent self-evidence of which Boltanski fundamentally calls into question through the randomness of his image combination.
