Lot 449 Gottfried Bechtold. Standbilder (1971/2001). …

Standbilder (1971/2001). 2006. C-Print in schwarzweiß auf Barytpapier. 30 x 95,5 cm (41,5 x 105) cm. Verso signiert, datiert und nummeriert. - Insgesamt sehr gut.

Modern Photography – Black-and-white photographic prints on baryta paper. Signed and numbered. - Black-and-white C-print on baryta paper. 30 x 95.5 cm (41.5 x 105 cm). Signed, dated and numbered on the reverse. - In very good condition overall. An excellent, high-contrast and finely detailed print of the two motifs with a wide margin. - One of 51 copies. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York, in the context of the exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz, 2006. - This edition forms part of Bechtold's ongoing exploration of conceptual and documentary strategies, which have characterised his work since his 100-day residency in Kassel for documenta IV (1972): The still images are based on a dual photographic gesture taken thirty years apart. In 1971, Bechtold had the photographer Heinz Schmidt document him in a Porsche in front of various buildings in Vorarlberg, in 2001, he returned to the same locations, this time with the roles reversed: Schmidt as the main subject, Bechtold as the documentarian. The 17 pairs of images in total, of which three prints were always compiled into a total edition of 51 portfolios, show the buildings from that time-some of which have changed completely-thus making time, authorship and movement themselves the actual subject.
