Britisches Postwar – Eins von 136 Exemplaren. - "Soft blue landscape" von Richard Hamilton zeigt eine weich verschwommene Waldszene in blauen und pastelligen Tönen, in der zwei elegante Frauen wie durch eine Linse gesehen erscheinen. Grundlage ist eine Werbeanzeige für Andrex-Toilettenpapier, deren Logo nur noch schemenhaft links im Bild auftaucht und sich fast vollständig in die Landschaft auflöst. Hamilton verbindet hier Traditionen der Landschafts- und Rokoko-Malerei mit der Bildsprache der Konsumwerbung und zeigt, wie sehr Reklame unser Bildgedächtnis prägt. Zugleich reflektiert die raffinierte Drucktechnik die Massenreproduktion von Bildern und lässt das Blatt zwischen romantischer Stimmung und kritischer Pop-Art-Analyse hin- und herpendeln.

One of 136 copies. - "Soft Blue Landscape" by Richard Hamilton depicts a softly blurred forest scene in shades of blue and pastel, in which two elegant women appear as if viewed through a lens. The work is based on an advertisement for Andrex toilet paper, whose logo appears only as a faint outline on the left side of the image and almost completely dissolves into the landscape. Here, Hamilton combines traditions of landscape and Rococo painting with the visual language of consumer advertising, demonstrating just how deeply advertising shapes our visual memory. At the same time, the sophisticated printing technique reflects the mass reproduction of images and causes the work to oscillate between a romantic mood and a critical Pop Art analysis.
