Lot 369 Mic Enneper. Eismeer. 1994. Wandobjekt aus …
Eismeer. 1994. Wandobjekt aus Paraffin, Holz und Graphit. 26 x 21 x 4 cm. Verso signiert und datiert. - An den Kanten einige wenige sehr kleine, kaum sichtbare Bestoßungen. Insgesamt ausgesprochen gut.
Conceptual Art – Wall sculpture made of paraffin, wood and graphite. Signed and dated on the reverse. - A few very small, barely visible scuffs on the edges. Overall, in excellent condition. - Private collection, Düsseldorf. - This work is part of a series that Mic Enneper has produced in several variations, always using wood and paraffin wax. The conceptual starting point is Caspar David Friedrich's famous painting The Ice Sea: Enneper translates the broken ice surfaces of the original, piled high by the elemental forces of nature, into a relief-like layering of wood and graphite, which he covers with a milky, translucent layer of paraffin. This preserves and fixes the motif, yet simultaneously strips it of any painterly warmth and envelops it in a cool, timeless rigidity that corresponds to the subject of the original in its own way.
