Lot 366 Shusaku Arakawa. Portrait of Helen Keller or …
Portrait of Helen Keller or Joseph Beuys. Aus: Für Joseph Beuys. 1987. Farblithographie auf Arches Velin. 61 x 81,5 cm. Signiert und in römischen Ziffern nummeriert. - Insgesamt sehr gut.
Conceptual Art – Conceptual art - Colour lithograph on Arches Velin paper. Signed and numbered. - In very good condition overall. An excellent, nuanced print of the full-page composition, with a distinctly chalky effect in places. - One of 30 copies from the Roman-numbered edition. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York, and Bernd Klüser, Munich, 1987. - Shusaku Arakawa, one of the early pioneers of international conceptual art, explored the mechanisms of human perception and language in his diagrammatic paintings, drawings and prints. The title of this work brings together two figures of radical borderline experience: Helen Keller stands as a paradigm of perception beyond the usual sensory channels, whilst Joseph Beuys embodies an expanded concept of art and knowledge, without resolving the tension between the two. The sparingly placed pictorial symbol reflects this conceptual openness.
