Lot 348 George Pusenkoff. Who is afraid of the Screen …
Who is afraid of the Screen #2. 2003. Acryl auf Leinwand. 70 x 70 cm. - Wenige kleine, kaum merkliche Bereibungen. Insgesamt sehr gut.
Who is Afraid of the Screen zählt zu seinen zentralen Werkgruppen.
Contemporary Art – Acrylic on canvas. Signed, dated, titled, designated with location "Cologne" and with further annotations on verso. - The title of this work references Barnett Newman's series of paintings "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue" and transposes it into the digital age. By imitating the screen interface, Pusenkoff creates a sense of disorientation in the transition from interactive to static interface, thereby generating a tension between digital appearance and painterly materiality, which forms the conceptual core of his work: Pusenkoff examines the conditions of image creation and perception in the computer age, whilst simultaneously using 20th-century art history as a frame of reference. "Who is Afraid of the Screen" is one of his central series of works.
