Ziegenbock. Um 1910. Aquarell auf Bütten. 14 x 22 cm. Auf Unterlage montiert und hinter Glas gerahmt, ungeöffnet. - Papier leicht fleckig und mit vertikaler Faltkante. Augenscheinlich insgesamt sehr gut, prachtvolle Arbeit in leuchtender Aquarellierung.

Klassische Moderne – Provenienz: Sammlung Karl Ernst Osthaus, Hagen, Sammlung Eberhard Osthaus, Worpswede. - Unterliegend mit der Darstellung eines Krokodils. - Die vorliegende Arbeit entstand während Christian Rohlfs Lebensphase bei Karl Ernst Osthaus Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts. In diesem Zeitraum entstanden zahlreiche Zeichnungen und Aquarelle mit den Darstellungen von Tieren, die der Künstler für die Kinder des Mäzen fertigte und die teils fast märchenhaft anmuten. Die expressionistischen Werke des deutschen Malers wurden später während des Nationalsozialismus beschlagnahmt und als "entartet" bewertet.

Apparently overall in very good condition, a magnificent work in vibrant colours. - Provenance: Karl Ernst Osthaus Collection, Hagen, Eberhard Osthaus Collection, Worpswede. - Beneath the drawing with the depiction of a crocodile. - This work was created during Christian Rohlf's time with Karl Ernst Osthaus in the early 20th century. During this period, he produced numerous drawings and watercolours depicting animals, which the artist created for his patron's children and which, in some cases, have an almost fairy-tale quality. The German painter's Expressionist works were later confiscated during the Nazi era and labelled as 'degenerate'.
