International Post War – Leuchtende, expressive Komposition in Grün, Gelb und Rot mit dem bedeutenden Titel "Wiedergeburt von Ranrahirca". Das vorliegende, monumentale Werk entsteht nur drei Jahre nach einer verheerenden Lawinenkatastrophe im Jahr 1962 in Ranrahirca, einer Kleinstadt in der Region Ancash in den peruanischen Anden. Die Stadt wurde von der Lawine fast vollständig begraben, was den Tod mehrerer Tausend Menschen zur Folge hatte. Auf beeindruckende Weise gelingt es Grau auf der großflächigen Leinwand durch eine stimmungsvolle Anordnung der Farben, Überleben nach Zerstörung und Hoffnung zu übermitteln, die so gar nicht an Tod und Vernichtung denken lassen. Der peruanische Künstler studiert in den 1920er Jahren an der École des Beaux-Arts in Brüssel und an der École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. 1937 kehrt er nach Peru zurück und wird zum ersten lateinamerikanischen Vertreter der Moderne, der in Abgrenzung zum indigenistischen Stil europäischen Malerei mit historischer Erinnerung verbindet.

Signed, as well as signed, dated, titled and stamped by the Instituto Nacional de Cultura - Perú on the verso. - A slightly rubbed area at the centre of the lower edge, with traces of restoration in places. Overall in very good condition, with fresh colours. - A luminous, expressive composition in green, yellow and red with the significant title 'Rebirth of Ranrahirca'. This monumental work was created just three years after a devastating avalanche disaster in 1962 in Ranrahirca, a small town in the Ancash region of the Peruvian Andes. The town was almost completely buried by the avalanche, resulting in the deaths of several thousand people. In an impressive manner, Grau succeeds on the large canvas, through an atmospheric arrangement of colours, in conveying survival after destruction and hope, which do not at all bring to mind death and annihilation. The Peruvian artist studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the 1920s. In 1937, he returned to Peru and became the first Latin American representative of Modernism to combine historical memory with European painting, setting himself apart from the Indigenist style.
