Geologie - Mineralogie

- Wohlerhalten.

Natural Sciences – Geology - Mineralogy - - Pyriteology, or Natural History of Pyrite...to which have been appended the Flora Saturnisans...and the mineralogical treatises. Flamed calf with red spine label and gold stamping (somewhat rubbed and scuffed). First edition of one of his major works on chemical mineralogy and the technology of sulfur and vitriol extraction. It offers a comprehensive natural-historical and chemical account of pyrite and related sulfur compounds, discusses the origin, properties, classification, and practical uses of this "important mineral," and is thus aimed equally at practitioners in the mining industry and at scholars. The volume combines the pyrite monograph with the "Flora Saturnisans," in which Henkel draws analogies between the plant and mineral kingdoms-particularly under the sign of the planet Saturn-as well as with smaller mineralogical and chemical treatises, resulting in a broad-ranging compendium that brings together early modern natural philosophy, experimental chemistry, and applied mining practice, and ranks among the influential, now rare sources of the emerging chemical mineralogy of the 18th century. - In good condition.
