Für die Buch- und Kunstgeschichte ist der Band wichtig, weil er das Zusammenspiel von Hochdruck-Typographie, Holzschnittillustration und humanistischer Symbolsprache auf hohem technischen und konzeptionellem Niveau zeigt. - Teils mit hs. As an early Plantin edition of one of the most influential emblem books of the early modern period, this print ranks among the key works of European emblematics. The volume is significant for the history of books and art because it demonstrates the interplay of letterpress typography, woodcut illustration and humanist symbolic language at a high technical and conceptual level. - Partially with handwritten markings. Pagination not consecutive from folio 144 onwards. Last pages with tears, marginal discolouration, some with heavier staining. Overall, a well-preserved copy of this very rare book of emblems.
