C. Iulii Caesaris Rerum Ab Se Gestarum Commentarii. Ad Codiceum uetustisimorum fidem summadiligentia castigati. Mit fünf ganzseitigen Holzschnitten und zwei mehrfach gefalteten Karten, sowie einer Titelvignette. Lyon, Sebastian Gryphius, 1540. 695 S., (121) S. 12°. Ldr. d. Zt. mit DFileten und goldgepr. Wappensupralibro, sowie späterem goldgepr. RSchild.(stark berieben und bestoßen, Schließen und Kapitale fehlen).
Geschichte
Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Von größter Seltenheit, für uns keine Auktionsergebnisse nachweisbar. Nur in 5 Institutionen weltweit, die Vergeleichsexemplare zudem mit geringerer Seitenanzahl. - Nicht im VD16. - Mit mehreren handschriftlichen Besitzvermerken. - Die erste Ausgabe gedruckt von Gryphius und herausgegeben von Giovanni Giocondo erschien im Jahr 1536. Diese im Jahr 1540 erschienene Ausgabe enthält Caesars Bello Gallico und Bello civili, Aulus Hirtius' Bello Alexandrino, sowie die beiden Texte zum Bello Africo und Bello Hispaniensi. - Sebsatian Gryphius (1492-1556) war Buchdrucker aus Reutlingen und wurde zusammen mit seinen Brüdern Johann und Franz von ihrem Vater, dem Reutlinger Buchdrucker Michael Greyff, ausgebildet. - Die beiden Karten zeigen den Bereich des heutigen Frankreichs und die iberische Halbinsel. - Handschriftliche Anstreichungen. Ränder gebräunt und leicht fleckig. Insgesamt gut erhaltene Ausgabe dieses äußerst seltenen Werks über die römischen Kriege.
Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – History. - With five full-page woodcuts and two multi-folded maps, as well as a title vignette. Lyon, Sebastian Gryphius, 1540. 695 pp., (121) pp. 12°. Contemporary leather binding with fillets and gold-stamped coat of arms supralibro, as well as later gold-stamped spine label (heavily rubbed and bumped, clasps and capitals missing). - Extremely rare, no auction results available to us. Only in 5 institutions worldwide, the comparative copies also with fewer pages. - Not in VD16. - With several handwritten ownership notes. - The first edition, printed by Gryphius and published by Giovanni Giocondo, appeared in 1536. This edition, published in 1540, contains Caesar's Bello Gallico and Bello civili, Aulus Hirtius' Bello Alexandrino, as well as the two texts on Bello Africo and Bello Hispaniensi. - Sebsatian Gryphius (1492-1556) was a printer from Reutlingen and was trained together with his brothers Johann and Franz by their father, the Reutlingen printer Michael Greyff. - The two maps show the area of present-day France and the Iberian Peninsula. - Handwritten markings. Margins browned and slightly stained. Overall, a well-preserved edition of this extremely rare work on the Roman wars.
