Sie enthält ein reich allegorisch gestaltetes Titelkupfer sowie 100 ganzseitige, den Text jeweils begleitende Kupferstiche nach Zeichnungen des Architekten und Antiquaren Pirro Ligorio, die zu den frühesten groß angelegten Illustrationszyklen zu Aesop-Fabeln gehören. - Der Titel zeigt einen Adicula-Aufbau mit allegorischen Figuren und dem Wappen der Medicis. - Besitzvermerk auf Titel, Alter Konventsstempel verso Titel, die ersten Seiten mit kleinem Wurmgang, die Abzuge teils etwas flau, leicht gebraunt und fleckig.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Second printing of the first edition. - A collection of fables first published in 1563, based on Aesopus Dorpi and the collection by Aldus Manutius. - Edited by the Italian poet Gabriele Faerno (1520-1561) at the request of Pope Pius IV. - This is the first edition of a cycle of fables to be illustrated with etchings. An edition of the hundred fables by the humanist Gabriele Faerno, published in Rome in 1564 by Vincenzo Luchinus, which is regarded as one of the most beautiful and influential collections of fables of the Renaissance. It contains a richly allegorical title copperplate engraving as well as 100 full-page copperplate engravings accompanying the text, based on drawings by the architect and antiquarian Pirro Ligorio, which are among the earliest large-scale illustration cycles for Aesop's fables. - The title page depicts an adicula structure with allegorical figures and the Medici coat of arms. - Ownership note on the title page, old convent stamp on the reverse of the title page, the first few pages show minor worming, the engravings are in places somewhat faint, slightly browned and stained.
