Theologie

Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Erste Ausgabe. - VD17 12:113363D - de Backer-S. VI, 1627. - Kleine Notiz u. kl. Läsur am Titeloberrand, insgesamt gutes, saubereres Exemplar.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Theology. - Reihing had been one of the most active proponents of the Counter-Reformation and had played a key role in Count Wolfgang Wilhelm of Pfalz-Neuburg's initial secret conversion to Catholicism. "When Wolfgang Wilhelm openly converted to Catholicism in Düsseldorf on 23 May 1614, R. administered his confirmation and also delivered a famous sermon that afternoon on the true marks of the Church, as he had attempted to justify the Duke's conversion in his treatise *Muri civitatis anctae*. The treatise caused quite a stir due to its clarity and conciseness, but even more so because of the circumstances that led to its writing. The surprise was all the greater when Reihing himself converted to the Protestant Church in 1621. - Until his death in 1628, he was fiercely opposed by his former fellow monks, yet they also tried, right up until his death, to win him back to their side" (ADB 27, pp. 698-700). - Small mark and slight tear at the top edge of the title page, overall a good, clean copy.
