Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Erste und einzige Ausgabe der bemerkenswerten, reichhaltig illustrierten Abhandlung zur Optik und Dioptrik. - Poggendorff I, 472. - Waller 11316. - Wellcome II, 383 (letztes Bl. fehlt). - Hartig, Mikroskope, 103. - Umfängliches Handbuch zur Optik, auf das sich u.a. auch Goethe in seiner Farbenlehre (Band II, S. 493f) bezieht, der Conrads "Sehe-Strahl" dort mit einem längeren Zitat erwähnt (Poggendorff). Die Tafeln u.a. mit optischen Figuren, Lichtbrechung, Linsen, Fernrohren, einer Laterna Magica, einer Camera obscura und eines "Polemoscopiums", d.i. ein abgewinkeltes Periskop, das in der Landkriegsführung verwendet wird. Auf S. 113 beschreibt Conradi zwei fehlerhafte Röhren, die "in Freysingen, 5 Meilen von München entfernt in Beyerland, von zwei dort lebenden Mechanikern hergestellt wurden, die keine Optiker, sondern Handwerker sind", und auf S. 114 bezieht er sich auf ein Mikroskop, das von einem "Wiener Optiker" hergestellt wurde, d. h. Johann Franz Gründel von Ach. - Provenienz: I. Johann Wenzeslaus, Freiherr von Widmann (um 1710-72), mit dessen datiertem ("1733"), mehrzeiligem Besitzervermerk in Gallustinte auf dem Titelblatt. - II. Besitzervermerk in Tinte auf Vorderspiegel: "Bibliotheca ophthalmica dono / dedit Prof. Fischer / 1821". - III. Stempel "Augenklinik" über einem gestempelten Äskulap-Stab auf Titelbl., 2. Hälfte 19. Jh. (unbedenklich). - Durchgehend braun- und stockfleckig, mitunter leicht fingerfleckig. Insgesamt solides Exemplar mit interessanter Provenienz des umfassenden, zusätzlich mit einem hübschen allgeorischen Kupfertitel ausgestatteten Traktats.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – First and only edition of this remarkable, richly illustrated treatise on optics and dioptrics. - For references see above. - Comprehensive handbook on optics, referred to by Goethe in his "Farbenlehre" (vol. II, p. 493f.), among others, who mentions Conrad's "Sehe-Strahl" with a lengthy quotation (cf. Poggendorff). The plates include optical figures, refraction, lenses, telescopes, a magic lantern, a camera obscura, and a "polemoscopium," i.e., an angled periscope used in land warfare. On p. 113, Conradi describes two faulty tubes that were "manufactured in Freysingen, 5 miles from Munich in Beyerland, by two mechanics living there who are not opticians but craftsmen," and on p. 114 he refers to a microscope manufactured by a "Viennese optician," i.e., Johann Franz Gründel von Ach. - Provenance: I. Johann Wenzeslaus, Baron von Widmann (c. 1710-72), with his dated ("1733") multi-line owner's note in gallus ink on the title page. - II. Owner's note in ink on front flyleaf: "Bibliotheca ophthalmica dono / dedit Prof. Fischer / 1821". - III. Stamp "Augenklinik" (Eye Clinic) above a stamped rod of Asclepius on title page, 2nd half of the 19th century. - Browning and foxing throughout, occasionally with slight finger-stains. Overall, a solid copy of this comprehensive and neatly illustrated treatise, with interesting provenance.
