Die charakteristische Haltung mit erhobenen Armen verweist auf einen kultischen oder anrufenden Gestus, der in der antiken Plastik als Ausdruck religiöser Hinwendung verstanden wird. Die feine Durchbildung der Oberfläche und die nuancierte Patina verweisen auf die hohe Qualität der Ausfühurng durch die renommierte Kunstgießerei Gladenbeck, die für die Verbreitung solcher kunsthistorisch bedeutender Motive eine zentrale Rolle spielten.

Overall, very good condition. - Private collection, Berlin. - Cast by Gladenbeck, Berlin. - A later, smaller version of the bronze in the Altes Museum, Berlin, cf. Collection of Classical Antiquities, ID no. SK 2. - This cast of the iconic motif of the Praying Man is one of the best-known ancient bronze statues in the Berlin collections. The characteristic posture with raised arms suggests a ritual or invocatory gesture, which in ancient sculpture is understood as an expression of religious devotion. The fine detailing of the surface and the nuanced patina attest to the high quality of the workmanship by the renowned art foundry Gladenbeck, which played a central role in the dissemination of such art-historically significant motifs.
