Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Bronze, fire-gilded. Mounted on wooden plate, covered with velvet. In a gold-colored stucco frame with a magnificently designed floral ornament. Slightly rubbed on few spots, loosely mounted to underlying ground, cutout for previous mounting at bottom, all in all good. Velvet slightly rubbed in spots, all in all good. - Originally probably created as a devotional or decorative relief for a larger object, this small bronze piece has a particularly striking effect precisely because of its compact form. The praying figure, the fine craftsmanship and the elegant gilding all point to the nature of a precious devotional or decorative object. Typologically, the work belongs to the category of Italian Renaissance plaques and gilded appliqués. It is comparable to small-scale Marian bronzes from the early 16th century associated with Francesco Marti.
