Landschaften - Schweiz
Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Oil on board. With incised, ligated monogram. Framed in a golden wooden frame. - The edges with slight surface rubbing in places as traces of framing. Lower right corner as well as very isolated colour losses. Faint, small stains in places, esp. at top depiction area. Occasional fine craquelure. Surface slightly soiled and varnish slightly yellowed. No visible retouching under UV. Good overall. Romantic landscape scene. - The Swiss painter is known for his landscape paintings which characterise his entire oeuvre. Bühlmann was member of a farming family that initially had no connection to art. He knew to draw his attenttion to his passion to become a landscape painter and at the age of 17 he began an apprenticeship as a flat painter in Zurich. His first commissions followed. Bühlmann always knew how to finance his fondness for travelling extensively to Italy and the Swiss countryside by selling vedute. Stylistically, he was a representative of Romantic landscape painting, his devotion to vegetation demonstrating his affinity with nature.
