Landschaften - Maritime Kunst
Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Maritime Art. - Oil on oak wood. Framed. - Approx. 1 cm wide break at the bottom, abrasion on the edges, varnished and yellowed, retouching visible under UV light on the break. Overall good condition. - A depiction of a three-masted pinasse against a cloudy sky on a choppy sea. The work displays the interplay of light, water and air characteristic of de Vlieger, which focuses on the dynamic force of nature in the clouds and lashing spray. The marine painter of the Dutch school makes use here of monochromatic colour groups, typical of the tonal phase of 17th-century Dutch painting.
