Landschaften - Deutschland
Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Provenienz: Norddeutscher Privatbesitz.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Oil on canvas. Signed and dated. In golden frame. - Provenance: Private collection, Northern Germany. - The landscape and veduta painter Bernhard Peters is in his artistic work primarily linked to his hometown of Anklam. Often depicted, it is his main subject along views of hanseatic coastal towns and high-mountain landscapes. After receiving his basic training in Anklam, he studies at the Berlin Academy of Painting under Otto Völckel between 1838 and 1848, afterfards he undertakes study trips to the Northern Alps, Salzkammergut and Lake Hallstatt, further travelling through southern and northern Germany. Inspiration and countless impressions flow into his artistic work. Our painting, which dates from the final year of Peters' life, bears witness to his sensitive empathy and imaginative conception of nature. Extremely atmospheric, it depicts an idealised, lyrical mountain landscape, closely resembling the style of Claude Lorrain. - Works by Bernhard Peters are very rarely found on the auction market. - Craquelure und varnish due to age, siolated colour chip in tree, stretcher very slightly pressing through from verso onto recto, slightly dusted on the verso, all in all very good. Colours fresh.
