Photography – United States of America. - Unique photographic documentation of the monumental engineering feat of constructing the Hoover Dam between Nevada and Arizona. - Set with 93 original silvergelatin prints covering the period from August to December 1932, loosely inserted in a card-board box for Kodak AZO contact paper. Before the dam could be built, the Colorado River had to be diverted. To achieve this, four diversion tunnels were driven through the canyon walls, two on the Nevada side and two on the Arizona side. These tunnels had a diameter of 17 m and a total length of almost 5 km. On November 13, 1932, the river was diverted into two of the tunnels. The photographs depict various machines and work processes, including a temporary suspension bridge over the Colorado River, dams, shots of the massive blasting operations, landscapes, and group portraits of the workers. - Some of the prints are slightly browned or toned. Overall, a well-preserved, unique set of photographs.
