Geographie und Reisen – Reich illustrierte Sammlung chinesischer Briefpapiere des Tuschemeisters Qi Baishi. Die farbigen Holzschnitte wurden nach Aquarellen Qi Baishis und weiterer bedeutender Maler Chinas direkt von den Originalstöcken gedruckt. Sie zeigen Landschaften, Pflanzen, Vögel, Insekten und Fische und zählen dank der präzisen Naturbeobachtung des Künstlers zu den herausragenden Arbeiten ihrer Zeit. Sämtliche Blätter sind im Stock betitelt bzw. mit einem Gedicht versehen und jeweils mit rotem Signaturstempel ausgestattet. Qi Baishi (auch Ch'i Pai-shih, 1863-1957), ursprünglich als Holzbildhauer und Tischler ausgebildet, gilt als einer der bedeutendsten modernen Künstler Chinas und fand auch im Westen große Beachtung. Über Malvorlagenbücher gelangte er zur eigenen Malerei und entfernte sich, unter dem Einfluss der "impressionistischen" Xieyi-Schule der Song- und Ming-Zeit, von streng detaillierter Wiedergabe hin zu einer charakteristisch zarten, gelösten Bildsprache. Besonders berühmt sind seine außerordentlich scharf beobachteten Darstellungen von Fischen, Insekten, Vögeln und Blumen (Vollmer IV, 478). - Schönes, sauberes Exemplar. kräftige Abdrücke in insgesamt sehr gutem Zustand.
