Not in the BL, and we have not been able to trace it at auction since 1915. - Peter Barlow (1776-1862) made important contributions to empirical strength of materials, mostly based on experiments he conducted at the Woolwich shipyard and in the Arsenal. - This fourth edition (first published in 1817 under the title "Essay on the Strength and Stress of Timber", further editions in 1824, 1826) contains for the first time on page 1. 465-92 contains, for the first time, the appendix "On the Power of Locomotive Engines...", which is noteworthy for the history of locomotive construction.
