Lot 427 Julian Opie. Shahnoza Pole Dancer. 2008. …

Shahnoza Pole Dancer. 2008. Serigraphie auf Vinylfolie. 237 x 59 cm (260 x 125 cm). - Insgesamt sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar.

Pop Art – Eines von 1000 Exemplaren. - Hg. Alan Cristea Gallery, London 2008.

Pop Art – Serigraphy on vinyl foil. - Overall very good and clean copy. - One of 1000 copies. - Ed. Alan Cristea Gallery, London 2008. - In Shahnoza Pole Dancer Julian Opie transfers his visual vocabulary to a figure scene that is located between everyday life and staging. In his reduced, iconographic style, he assigns the dancer Shahnoza a dynamic pose that conveys movement, physicality and eye contact in a clear formal language. The work was realised as a screen print on a self-adhesive vinyl film, which is installed directly on the wall. Through the interplay of clear lines, two-dimensional design and its monumental format, the figure clearly stands out as a graphic symbol. Despite the formal reduction, the impression of movement is retained: the momentum of the body, the vertical axis of the pole and the tension between figure and space condense into a minimalist choreography. Opie thus succeeds in reflecting on the representation of the body, on stage and everyday aesthetics and on the relationship between model, pose and visibility.
