Pop Art – C-Type print on vinyl, mounted on wooden frame. Signed and dated on verso. - Fine, barely noticeable scratch mark in the motif. Overall very good. - Julian Opie's Roadscape 54 from 2001 is part of a group of works in which the motif of the road is transformed into a visual archetype of modern mobility. The unique C-type print mounted on wood lends the work an object-like presence that goes beyond the purely pictorial. Opie's characteristic pictorial language of clearly contoured lines, homogeneous areas of colour and the complete absence of textural details is expressed here in the form of a landscape: Perspective lines, lane markings and horizon line are reduced to a visual minimum without losing their atmospheric effect. Despite the simplification, the image unfolds an atmospheric depth in which light, colour temperature and implied movement create a visual echo of reality and transform the everyday experience of the modern street scene into an iconic, pictogram-like image.
