Pop Art – Eines von 30 Exemplaren. - Aus der Serie "Walking Statuettes". - Opie hat mit seinem einprägsamen, stilisierten Werk zu einer ikonischen, weltweit gültigen Formensprache gefunden, die sich innerhalb des zeitgenössischen Diskurses zu einer festen Position etabliert hat. Seit Beginn seiner künstlerischen Laufbahn befasst er sich mit der Erweiterung der künstlerischen Mittel, lotet die Gattungsgrenzen zwischen Malerei und Skulptur changierend unter Einbezug neuester Herstellungsverfahren aus. Motivisch der Populärkultur angelehnt, sind seine figürlichen Darstellungen fest in der Tradition der Bildgeschichte verankert und fokussieren sich auf Porträts und Halb- und Ganzfigurendarstellungen. Since the beginning of his artistic career, he has been concerned with expanding artistic means, exploring the boundaries between painting and sculpture, incorporating the latest manufacturing processes. Motivically inspired by pop culture, his figurative representations are firmly anchored in the tradition of pictorial history and focus on portraits and half- and full-length figures. Created in varied series, the works take on a playful character. The central theme is movement through which temporality is embodied in human form. Opie chooses a visual vocabulary in which individual characteristics are reduced to a few strokes or to the schematisation of basic physiognomic features, resulting in pictogram-like portraits of universal validity.
