Zeitgenössische Kunst – Stefan Plenkers gehört zu den wichtigen Vertretern der figurativen Malerei in der DDR und Nachwendezeit. Seine Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen Realismus und Abstraktion und bestechen durch eine dynamische kompositorische Struktur sowie präzise Beobachtung von Raum und Figur. Plenkers untersucht in seiner Malerei das Verhältnis von Mensch und Umgebung, von Wahrnehmung und bildnerischer Ordnung. Charakteristisch ist die Reduktion seiner Bildsprache, wodurch er die Tradition der Leipziger Schule fortsetzt und gleichzeitig um eine eigenständige, konzeptuell reflektierte Position erweitert.

In his painting, Plenkers explores the relationship between humans and their environment, between perception and pictorial order. His work is characterised by a reduction in his visual language, continuing the tradition of the Leipzig School while at the same time expanding it with an independent, conceptually reflective position.
