Klassische Moderne – Provenienz: Sammlung Karl Ernst Osthaus, Hagen. Übergegangen an dessen Sohn Eberhard Osthaus, Worpswede. S. 166).

Classical Modernism – Watercolour on laid paper. Another drawing on the reverse. In the upper margin spot-mounted under mat, framed under glass. - Slightly browned due to paper, partially with stains (some due to previous mounting), only slightly brown-spotted in few spots, paper somewhat brittle and partly irregular at the edges. Overall good. - Provenance: Karl Ernst Osthaus Collection, Hagen. Passed on to his son Eberhard Osthaus, Worpswede. Today private collection in Northern Germany through inheritance. From 1901 onwards, Christian Rohlfs lived in Hagen at the invitation of art historian and patron Karl Ernst Osthaus, who provided him with a studio for life in the newly established Folkwang Museum. During this creative phase, he produced numerous drawings and watercolours, often on the backs of letters or invitation cards, while telling fairy tales to the Osthaus children. Rohlfs had a close relationship with the family, especially with the children, who were allowed to call him 'Ohm Rohlfs' (cf. Stamm/Köpnick, 'Karl Ernst und Gertrud Osthaus (..)', 2022. p. 166).
