Heimkehr. Um 1985. Pastell auf Maschinenbütten. 61 x 49 cm. In kyrillisch signiert.

Classical Modernism – Pastel on machine-made laid paper. Signed. - Slightly darkened in edges, very isolated handling tracem all in all very good. Colours very fresh. - Provenance: Berlin private collection. - At the age of twelve, Glasunov flees from besieged Leningrad along the Road of Life to Soviet hinterland, while his family does not survive the blockade. After the Second World War, he returns to his hometown and becomes a Soviet state artist. Within the political possibilities of the time, he is involved in a cultural dialogue with the West and GDR. His artistic work is dominated by historical, literary and religious themes, the expression of a genuinely Russian soul, a connection to his homeland, a longing for it, the landscape in its manifold colours and familiar, melancholic roughness is evident in 'Homecoming'. It may be the search for a familiar place that Glazunov puts down on paper.
