Französische Moderne – Schneider, Poliakoff S.254/255. - Eines von 75 Exemplaren. - Hg.
French Post War – Colour aquatint on vellum. Signed and numbered. Mounted on backing and cut out in passe-partout. - Colours slightly faded, sheet slightly browned at the edges. Overall good condition with excellent, nuanced impression. - One of 75 copies. - Ed. XXe siècle, Paris 1966. - Printed by J. Davis, Paris. - In this aquatint from 1966, Poliakoff condenses the central principles of his abstract painting into an exciting colour field composition. The black form forms the structural centre and stands in dynamic relation to the contrasting primary colours yellow, blue and red. He uses the aquatint technique not merely as a means of reproduction, but as a painterly process: the surfaces appear as powerfully modulated colour spaces. In this way, the principles of colour field painting and abstraction are given concrete form. The aquatint technique becomes a vehicle for an aesthetic practice in which print, painting and colour composition coincide.
