L'Oiseau et son nid. 1956. Lithographie auf Velin. 37 x 51 cm (40,5 x 56 cm). Signiert und nummeriert sowie mit dem Prägestempel des Herausgebers. Punktuell auf Unterlage montiert. - Einige punktuelle Fleckchen, an den Rändern teils mit partiellen, kaum merklichen Anschmutzungen. An der oberen Kante mit kurzer Läsur von ca. 3mm. Verso mit Resten früherer Montierung. Insgesamt sehr gut mit ausgezeichnetem, kreidigem und farbsatten Druck.

Edition Maeght, Paris 1956. - In der vorliegenden Lithographie greift Georges Braque ein zentrales Motiv seines Spätwerks auf: den Vogel als Symbol für Transzendenz, Leichtigkeit und Raumbewegung. Die abstrahierte Darstellung ist flächig gehalten und rhythmisch moduliert und steht somit exemplarisch für Braques späte Auseinandersetzung mit symbolischer Formensprache jenseits des Kubismus. Das Motiv des Vogels - von Braque seit 1953 in zahlreichen Variationen behandelt, insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit der Deckenmalerei für den Etruskischen Saal des Louvre - erfährt hier eine intime, auf das Private gerichtete Interpretation. Die Druckgrafik wird somit zum Medium der Verdichtung: Sie fasst ikonische Motive des Spätwerks in reduzierter Formensprache und gibt zugleich Einblick in Braques Suche nach einer elementaren, zeitlosen Bildpoesie.

Mounted in spots on underlying mat. - A few pinpoint stains, in part with partial, barely noticeable soiling in the margins. Upper edge with fine loss of approx. 3mm. Verso with remnants of previous mounting. - Vallier 1024. - One of 300 copies. - In this lithograph, Georges Braque takes up a central motif of his late work: the bird as a symbol of transcendence, lightness and spatial movement. The abstract depiction is two-dimensional and rhythmically modulated and thus exemplifies Braque's late exploration of symbolic formal language beyond Cubism. The motif of the bird - treated by Braque in numerous variations since 1953, in particular in connection with the ceiling painting for the Etruscan Hall of the Louvre - is given an intimate, private interpretation here. The print thus becomes a medium of condensation: it captures iconic motifs from the late work in a reduced formal language and at the same time provides an insight into Braque's search for an elementary, timeless pictorial poetry.
