Ostdeutsche Kunst – Provenienz: Privatbesitz, Berlin. - Hartwig Ebersbach studierte von 1959-64 an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig bei Bernhard Heisig. In den 1980er Jahren entwickelte er eine Malweise, die durch expressiv-gestische Energie geprägt ist: Er spricht von "Malerei ist Tat" und von einem "aufgewühlten Meer aus pastos aufgetragenen Ölfarben", in dem sich "die Konturen seiner Motive manchmal bis zur Unkenntlichkeit" auflösen. In den frühen 1980er Jahren ist Ebersbachs Werk von einer rastlosen Bildwelt geprägt, in der existentielle Fragen nach Identität, Freiheit und Widerstand gegen etablierte Systeme inszeniert werden. Das vorliegende Werk zeigt, in Anlehnung an diese Praxis, weniger ein fixiertes Sujet als eine operative Malweise, in der Farbe, Linie und Form in Bewegung gesetzt werden, als Spuren eines Malprozesses im Spannungsfeld von Material, Geste und Subjekt.
