Informel – In der vorliegenden Arbeit von 1964 zeigt sich Fred Thielers charakteristischer Umgang mit Farbe, Material und Zufall. Die Arbeit auf Papier, ausgeführt in Mischtechnik und Collage, steht exemplarisch für seine informelle Bildsprache, die in den 1960er-Jahren eine neue Freiheit im künstlerischen Prozess betonte. Thieler verzichtete auf vorbereitende Skizzen und vertraute stattdessen auf die Dynamik des Malakts. Farbe wurde gegossen, gespritzt, geschichtet - stets im Dialog mit dem Material. Die eingefügten Collagefragmente unterbrechen den gestischen Fluss und verleihen dem Werk eine physische Struktur. So entsteht ein Spannungsverhältnis zwischen spontaner Geste und bewusster Setzung, das sich als Ausdruck eines offenen, prozesshaften Bilddenkens manifestiert.

Very good overall. - The present work from 1964 shows Fred Thieler's characteristic use of colour, material and chance. The work on paper, executed in mixed media and collage, is exemplary of his informal pictorial language, which emphasised a new freedom in the artistic process in the 1960s. Thieler dispensed with preparatory sketches and instead relied on the dynamics of the act of painting. Paint was poured, sprayed and layered - always in dialogue with the material. The inserted collage fragments interrupt the gestural flow and lend the work a physical structure. This creates a tension between spontaneous gesture and deliberate composition, which manifests itself as an expression of open, processual pictorial thinking.
