Lot 103 Waldemar Grzimek. Liebendes Paar. 1979. Bronze …
Liebendes Paar. 1979.
German Post War – Bronze with blackish brown patina. Monogrammed on the plinth and with the foundry stamp 'Guss Barth Rinteln' and 'I' on the back. - With slight surface dusting. Overall in very well preserved condition. Exceptionally splendid cast of the finely modelled sculpture, its surface partly vibrantly textured, with an even patina. - First and only bronze cast. - The 'Loving Couple' belongs to Waldemar Grzimek's late oeuvre and is an example of the artistic maturity that characterised his work in the 1970s. In this period, Grzimek's formal language concentrated to create a sensual yet emotionally charged representation of the human body. The powerful, rhythmically structured figures convey a flowing movement, while the slightly inclined heads and harmoniously connected arms create a dreamy, almost ethereal mood, yet the physicality of the figures remains sensually perceptible.
