Deux Sphinx. Mit Illustrationen von Mittis. Paris, Borel, 1896. 4 Bll., 200 S., 2 Bll. Kl.-8°. Einband aus japanischem Lederpapier (Gikakushi) auf fünf Bünden mit teils kolorierter, ornamentaler und figürlicher Goldprägung, Kopfgoldschnitt und Vorsätzen aus japanischen Farbholzschnitten mit Darstellungen von Kranichen und Blumen. (Ecken bestoßen, Gelenke angeplatzt. Etwas berieben, Rücken und Gelenke stärker).

Einbände

Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Aus der Reihe "Nouvelles Collections Guillaume Lotus Bleu". - Die Technik zur Herstellung von japanischem Lederpapier (Gikakushi) aus Kozo-Fasern ist in einem Artikel von Félix Régamey in der "Revue des Arts décoratifs" (Dez. 1899) und in "Le Japon pratique" (1891) erläutert. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts war diese Art von Einband unter dem Einfluss des Japonismus in der Kunst, insbesondere in Frankreich, von Sammlern und Bibliophilen besonders geschätzt, von den Brüdern Goncourt bis zu Octave Uzanne, Pierre Loti und Henri Vever. - Titelbl. etwas berieben. Papierbedingt gebräunt. Insgesamt ohlerhalten in interessantem Einband.

Modern Literature and Art – Bindings - With illustrations by Mittis. Binding of Japanese leather paper (gikakushi) on five bands with partly coloured ornamental and figural gilt decorations, gilt top edge and endpapers of Japanese colour woodblock prints depicting cranes and flowers. (Corners bumped, joints chipped. Somewhat rubbed, spine and joints stronger). - From the series "Nouvelles Collections Guillaume Lotus Bleu". - The technique of making Japanese leather paper (Gikakushi) from Kozo fibres is explained in an article by Félix Régamey in the "Revue des Arts décoratifs" (Dec. 1899) and in "Le Japon pratique" (1891). At the end of the 19th century, under the influence of Japonism in art, especially in France, this type of binding was particularly appreciated by collectors and bibliophiles, from the Goncourt brothers to Octave Uzanne, Pierre Loti and Henri Vever. - Title-page somewhat rubbed. Paper browned. Overall well preversend, in interesting binding.
