Mit 4 Titelvignetten (wovon 2 radiert und 2 in Holz geschnitten, je wiederholt), 3 grenzkolorierten, gefalteten Karten bzw. Plänen, 1 Falttafel u. 12, wovon 4 großen illustrierten Holzschnitt-Vignetten bzw. Initialen. Wien, Mathias Andreas Schmidt, 1779. 24, 28, 34 S. Hldr. d. Zt. auf fünf Schmuckbünden mit goldgepr. RTit. auf Lederschildchen, floraler Rgoldpräg., mit Kleisterpapier überzogenen Decken und umseitigen Rotschnitt (etwas bestoßen, berieben und vereinzelt mit Fleckchen, hs. Vermerke auf Rücken und Hinterdeckel).

Geschichtswissenschaften – Vollständiges, mit allen Karten und Plänen ausgestattetes Exemplar von Bourscheids Analyse des Preußischen Militärs im Bayerischen Erfolgekrieg. - Jähns III, 1880. - Wurzbach II, 101. - Mischauflage, das erste "Stück" (Teil) hier als "Dritte Auflage", die Stücke 2-4 in der ersten und einzigen Ausgabe von Schmidt, allesamt Titelauflagen einer 1778/79 erschienenen Ausgabe von Trattner. - Die einzelnen "Stücke" (Teile) tragen die Untertitel (Tl. 1) "Im Gesichtspunkte der Strategie", (Tl. 2) "Im Gesichtspunkte der Taktik und Logistik", (Tl. 3) "Im Gesichtspunkte des Winterstandes u. (4 Tl.) "Worin beurtheilt wird, in wie fern es dem preußischen Staate, bey seiner jetzigen National-Volksmenge möglich wird, sein aus 200.000 Mann bestehendes Kriegsheer zu rekrutieren." - Die von dem Wiener Kupferstecher Jakob Adam klar gestochenen, teils umfangreiche Legenden umfassenden und in kräftigem Grenzkolorit gehaltenen Pläne zeigen "Entwurff Der Preussischen Operation auf Böhmen Im Jahre 1757 Im Entgegenhalte der von 1778", "Königlich Preussischer Wintercordon in Schlesien, nach dem Ersten Feldzuge des Vierten Krieges" und "Verhältniss der Preussischen Kriegsmacht Zu dem Ertrag der Grundbesize des Preussischen Staates in Friedenszeit". - Die Bedeutung des Militärschriftstellers Johann Wilhelm Bourscheid (1730-92) besteht heute insbesondere darin, dass er, auch mit vorliegendem Werk, den Begriff "Strategie" in den deutschen militärwissenschaftlichen Sprachgebrauch einführte, wobei er darunter sowohl allgemein die Verteidigung eines Territoriums, als auch die Organisation von Kriegseinsätzen verstand. - Fehlpaginierung "61" statt "16". - Es fehlt der fliegende Vorsatz. Titelblatt mit Ausriss im oberen Rand, dort minimaler Textverlust des Anfangsbuchstabens des Titels. Spiegel mit hs. Besitzervermerken, innen vereinzelt mit kleinen Tinten- und Stockfleckchen, sonst sauberes Exemplar dieses Rarums, für uns auf Auktionen komplett nicht nachweisbar.

History – Complete copy of Bourscheid's analysis of the Prussian military in the Bavarian War of Succession, including all maps and charts. - Jähns III, 1880. - Wurzbach II, 101. - The first part here as a "3rd Edition," parts 2-4 in the first and only edition by Schmidt, all impprints of an edition by Trattner published in 1778/79. - The individual parts bear the subtitles (1) "From the Point of View of Strategy", (2) "From the Point of View of Tactics and Logistics", (3) "From the Point of View of Winter Standings" and (4) "Wherein it is assessed to what extent it will be possible for the Prussian state, with its current national population, to recruit its military army of 200,000 men." - The maps and charts, clearly engraved by the Viennese engraver Jakob Adam, partly with extensive legends and in strong border coloring, show "Draft of the Prussian Operation in Bohemia in 1757 in Contrast to that of 1778", "Royal Prussian Winter Cordon in Silesia after the First Campaign of the Fourth War" and "Relationship of the Prussian Military Force to the Yield of the Lands of the Prussian State in Peacetime". - The significance of the German military writer Johann Wilhelm Bourscheid (1730-92) today lies in the fact that he, also with this work, introduced the term "Strategie" (strategy) into German military-scientific usage, whereby he understood this to mean both, the general defense of a territory and the organization of military operations. - Incorrect pagination "61" instead of "16". - The fly-leafa are missing. Title page with a tear in the upper margin, with minimal loss of text of the initial letter of the title. The spine with handwritten owner's inscriptions, with occasional small ink and foxing spots on the inside, otherwise a clean copy of this rare item, completely not traceable for us at auctions whatsoever.
