Judaica

Geschichtswissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe dieses kontroversiellen Versuchs einer christlichen Kabbala. - D17 12:119305F. - Fürst II, S. 330. - Steinschneider 6702. - Vinograd, Y. Otsar ha-sefer ha-'Ivri II, Nürnberg 8. Bl. Xx2 mit minimalem Ausriss oben rechts. Durchgehend leicht sichtbar wasserrandig, papierbedingt etwas gebräunt. - Insgesamt gut erhaltenes, ausnehmend sammelnswertes Judaicum.

History – First edition of this controversial attempt at a Christian Kabbalah. - Rarely offered, controversial work from Jewish German scholar Julius Konrad Otto (eig. Naphtali Margolioth, 1562 - ca. 1655). Born into the widely ramified Jewish Margoliot family, Naphtali became a multiple and alternating convert between Judaism and various Christian denominations. A polemical, even anti-semitic treatise full of false interpretations of Talmudic passages to some (Vinograd, Fürst), Otto's 'Gali Raza' was received in Christian mysticism of the early 17th century by Johannes Steudner and possibly also by Jakob Böhme as inspiration for a Christian Kabbalah to define. - Printed in two columns with text in Hebrew, Latin and German. - Endpapers and last two leaves somewhat worm-eaten. Lv. Xx2 with minimal tear at upper right. Slightly visible water-staining throughout, somewhat browned due to paper. - Overall well-preserved copy of this collectible Judaicum.
