De droeve ellendigheden van den Oorloogh. Seer aerdigh en konstigh Afgebeeldt. 18 Radierungen (samt Titel) von Leonard Schenk nach Jacques Callot. o.O. u. J. (Amsterdam, um 1710-1746). Mont. in Album d. Zt. Quer-4°. Marmor. Halbmaroquin mit goldgepr. RTitel u. goldgepr. DSchild (berieben u. bestoßen, Kanten tls. beschabt).

Geschichtswissenschaften – Meaume 564-81. - Späte Ausgabe der erstmals 1633 erschienenen Serie und eine der berühmtesten Folgen Callots, die sog. "großen" Kreigsgreuel. Alle Tafeln mit der Nummerierung, den gest. Versen des Abbé de Marolles im Unterrand sowie dem Stechernamen Israels Henriet in der Platte. - Alle Tafeln bis zur Einfassungslinie beschnitten. - Mit eh., 1825 dat. Besitzvermerk von Mary Mainwaring (1800-1867?, Miniaturmalerin?). - Albumseiten tls. gebräunt u. braunfleckig, Radierungen tls. leicht braun- oder stockfleckig, insg. schöne u. klare Abdrucke.
History – Later, Dutch issue of this series of 18 etched plates, illustrating the desasters of war. Mounted in contemp. album. Marbled half morocco with gilt stamped title to spine and gilt stamped label to cover (rubbed and bumped, edges partially chafed). - All plates numbered, with the engraved verses of Abbé de Marolles in the lower margin, and with the engraver's name, Israels Henriet, in the plate. - All plates trimmed. - Ownership entry (dated 1825) by Mary Mainwaring (1800-1867? Miniature painter?). - Leaves partially browned due to paper and brownstained, etchings partially slightly brownstained or slightly foxed, overall well preserved prints.
