Pro populo Germanico. Berlin, Georg Reimer 1854. 1 Bl., 334 S. 8°.

Geschichtswissenschaften – Seltene erste Ausgabe. - ADB I, 541 ff. Slg. Borst 2523. Goedeke VII, 833, 134. NDB I, 358 ff. Schäfer-Schawe 1112.

History – Later light brown morocco with gilt-stamped title, cover fillets and floral leather inlays, as well as gilt edges and inner edges and gilt head edge, original cover bound in. - Rare first edition. - "Arndt originally wanted to put on the title: Geist der Zeit fünfter Theil" (Goedeke). He was elected to the Frankfurt Parliament, where he sat as a member of the right-wing Center, and on July 2 delivered his only lengthy speech, in harmony with the convictions of his entire life: "Zur Vertheidigung der geschichtlichen Ehren und Titel des Adels." On March 30, 1849, he became a member of the deputation that traveled to Berlin to offer Frederick William IV the imperial crown, on May 30, he and his like-minded colleagues resigned from parliament. His "Blätter der Erinnerung aus der Paulskirche" (Leipzig 1849), however, were poems. In the book "Pro Populo germanico" (Berlin 1854), he once again appeared before his nation as a serious admonisher, comparing, as he liked to do, the state of Germany with that of other states. - Minimal foxing in places, overall a very well-preserved copy.
